The Dubrovnik cable car ascends Mount Srđ in four minutes, delivering bird's-eye views over the walled city, Lokrum Island and the Elafiti archipelago. It is the fastest way to grasp Dubrovnik's geography on a port day.
Cruise ships dock at Gruž (Gruz) commercial cruise terminal, about 2.5 km east of Dubrovnik Old Town's Pile Gate. Taxis to the walls take 10–15 minutes; port shuttle buses and local services run in season; a waterfront walk takes 25–35 minutes. Build a 60–90 minute buffer before all-aboard — summer queues at the city walls and cable car can slow your return to the terminal.
The lower station sits above the Old Town — taxi to Pile Gate then a short uphill walk, or a dedicated excursion with transfers from Gruž. At the summit, walk the Imperial Fortress (Homeland War Museum optional), the Panorama Restaurant terrace and the white stone cross viewpoint.
Cable car queues rival the city walls in peak season — 30–45 minute waits are common mid-morning. Book timed tickets or visit late afternoon if your ship departs after 18:00. Operations suspend in high winds.
